After an extensive trip through Latin America with a total mileage of approx. 80,000 km under extreme conditions (corrugated iron tracks, heat, dust and a mountain stream accident), a complete technical revision of the KTM 690 was carried out.
Engine Revision (Heart):
- Complete Disassembly: The entire engine was disassembled down to the last screw.
- Sealing Concept: All seals, shaft seals and bearings were consistently renewed.
- Cylinder & Piston: The cylinder was professionally overhauled and given a new DLC coating. A high-performance piston from Wössner with a matching connecting rod was installed.
- Crankshaft Assembly: The connecting rod replacement and pressing in of the bearing shells were done by a specialist company due to the necessary special tools.
- Own Contribution: All further assembly work was carried out in the own workshop. Especially inserting the bearings in the housing cover worked excellently using thermal joining technology (housing heated to 120°C, bearings deep-frozen).
Chassis & Attachments:
Due to the hard off-road loads, numerous wear and defective parts were replaced:
- Bodywork: Complete side fairings and the entire front mask including speedometer.
- Controls: Brake and clutch levers, indicators as well as various small parts.
- Wear: Complete inspection and renewal of relevant chassis components after travel operation.
